Spinosaurus jaw or croc?

Recommended Posts

Hi there i continue to maintain my very very amateur status but I've been trying to read the different threads on here regarding spinosaurus jaw and what I gathered so far is pitting is reflective of croc jaw and if it only has a single socket or also makes it difficult to determine if its spino or croc.  I found this one on our favorite auction site and wanted to get your opinion :)20200323_231204.thumb.jpg.18df863c3ee37f1f75a9f39e7eebfe16.jpg20200323_231151.thumb.jpg.34cdb13219cabcd6c87e14c0a14a6437.jpg20200323_231138.thumb.jpg.4b536ebaf6f3f53140a88999597fcb7b.jpg20200323_231125.thumb.jpg.36b3a1df20972b00a51ddd1317ac1a91.jpg

I saw this piece as well. I'm not convinced it's spinosaur.

It was being advertised as part of the back of the jaw where it articulates with the skull. I think that part about it is correct. But yes, as you say, that pitting is more typical of crocs.

So yeah I would say this is part of the articular facet of a large croc jaw. Given the size Elosuchus seems likely.

Agree, in addition to the ornimation of the bone if that is a tooth socket, which Im not sure it is, they are not found in the posterior end of the jaw in a Spinosaurid.
