Hello,    Here is a couple of brachiopods from the Castle Hayne Form.( Eocene) of SE North Carolina. They are both argyotheca  but of 2 different species I believe ?They are both 7mm. The first one the valves are open. The second one the valves were open also when I found it but are now in 2 halves. I included pics of outer and inner of both halves. If you have any information on the species I would be grateful.

I can't help but find these interesting. Perhaps one of our European members has some insights. Am under the impression that Europe has more diverse tertiary brachiopod faunas.

I agree with your I.D. of genus on these Mark. As far as species, I don't believe these have ever been I.D.'d to species level from the Castle Hayne.

Interesting.

If anyone has a paper or two on fossil species of Argyotheca, I'd be very grateful.

I have nothing at all.
