PODIGGER
Made it back to the Peace River today. I went back to a prior area where I have not seen many people in the past, trying to still avoid others. Came up with many pieces of bone. The one I am seeking input on is the only one that I think has a chance of being identified. Best I can come up with after research is a partial mammoth or mastodon metatarsal. This was found right where I discovered a proboscidian carpal bone and a partial jaw bone last year. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Shellseeker
Looks like it to me: Approximately the same size, Flat on bottom, and I seem to see the same "notch" closest to the ruler in your last photo. I love finding large , large bones.. It gives me a sense...These were both found in the general vicinity of your hunting grounds... 2 The White Queen ".... in her youth she could believe "six impossible things before breakfast"
PODIGGER
Thanks Jack! This is far from a complete specimen but after a vinac/acetone bath it will go right into the display case with the mammoth/mastodon carpal I found in the same spot last year. By the way, saw two air boats on the river yesterday north of Payne Creek. One was surveyors. The other was two FWC officers cutting back brush and debris restricting passage on the river. They spent some time on that spot where we met on the river. They were making more room on the west side of the little rapids area. Rockwood - Your comment is much appreciated as I had the same thought as soon as I pulled it out of the river. About the size for Dumbo I think, LOL!
