Calvert Cliffs Ray teeth

The Jersey Devil

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I would like to ask about these ray teeth from Calvert Cliffs. All I know is that some of them are Aetobatos I think.

Thank you.

The below table from Godfrey 2018 The Geology and Vertebrate Paleontology of Calvert Cliffs Maryland USA  lists batoid genera from Calvert Cliffs.  So from your pictures, your specimens could be Aetobatus, Pteromylaeus, Rhinoptera or Plinthicus.

I agree with @MarcoSr. The one on the far right bottom does appear to be Plinthicus to me.

Yes. I should have said that.

@sixgill pete @MarcoSr

Are these possibly identifiable?

I think they are dolphin/porpoise ribs, 2 ear bones, maybe a ratfish chunk (probably just an odd bone piece), and some other type of bone.

Those look like rib bones but cetacean rib bones aren't really diagnostic.

Your two specimens don't look like any ear bones that I'm familiar with.

I agree on an odd bone piece.

The last specimen looks more like an internal shell cast to me.
