Pleuromya
Hello, recently I've been using tools that my great grandfather owned (still in great condition), but I know I will not be able to use these forever. I saw this and thought it looked like a good set of tools, would it be a good choice? The hammer weighs 1kg. Also, is a tool belt recommended on fossil hunting trips? Thanks. DPS Ammonite
Get an Estwing geology pick. They will last a lifetime. I like an Estwing E6-24PC because it’s large head means that you are less likely to hit your hand when using a chisel. I also use it for driving tent stakes, digging holes and climbing hillsides. Then get a set of good locally made chisels. 1 My goal is to leave no stone or fossil unturned. See my Arizona Paleontology Guide link The best single resource for Arizona paleontology anywhere. Get an Estwing crack hammer or similar one with a one piece metal head and handle. The one you show is dangerous because the wood handle might crack or shrink and detach from the head. In my life, I have had several (regular) hammer heads fly off wooden handles. I have never had a problem with an Estwing https://geology.com/store/rock-hammers/crack-hammers.shtml 1 My goal is to leave no stone or fossil unturned.
