How big is it ? Coral is not out of the question, but it looks more like a bryozoan to me. The size is one of the most accessible indications.

I have seen these fossils from Michigan, people usually call them Cladopora sp. online although I am not sure that this is actually the ID for this fossil

Still say that would have to be wicked big threads in the fabric for it to be.

Argument aside as to whether or not big threads can be morally good or bad, are you trying to say that the purported Cladopora is too small to be a Cladopora?

My goal is to leave no stone or fossil unturned.

My guess: Coenites or an alveolitid anyway

Now that I've done some googling, I'm inclined to agree that this is probably Cladopora (or Cladophora, depending on who typed the reference.)

You're kidding ? Why am I the only one who had the thread count of the fabric indicating this to be half that size ? :headscratch:

  • 1 month later...

bringing this back up.  i have a few questions

is this safe to polish?  if so, how to polish?

if i were to polish it, and out it on a display piece, what would it say?

IE:

Cladapora

Pennsylvanian Era

65 - 75 million years ago

(this is just an example,  i know nothing about this)  i just thought making something for my grandson would be fun
