Fossil or concretion?

Found in a river in central Ohio. The stem made me feel it might be a fossil??? It’s very hard and about the size of a tablespoon. Thanks for your help in identifying.

Agreed. The general shape follows as well. It should hold as an ID as long as it doesn't need to support anything. :)

I have to disagree, and say this is not a fossil.

Not seeing any evidence of symmetry or any details that would indicate fossil.

So I’ve found another one quite similar to this. Would you recommend I cut it open?  “Might” something be inside? It’s very dense/heavy. Thanks for your insight.

You may have noticed that my attitude is to give it a try. I doubt anything will be found, but if you are careful to do it safely what could it hurt ?
