Picked from mix of QT, QAL, and Eagle Ford gravels.  I love calcite but it can be deceiving, not sure if this was replacement of something or naturally formed structure, appears to be fossilized something. Curious about the red, mineral staining maybe? Last pic is view from above.

Rudist was not on my radar, they are very strange and it seems no two look alike so it's beyond me how to recognize them. :s_confused:

The texture that looks a little like 'fish scale' is one indication I think.

Still not sure I would have recognized it in this form,  which is pretty and delicate looking.  That is the opposite of a rudist. :)

Mark.

Fossil hunting is easy -- they don't run away when you shoot at them!

might have to apply the funny but often true "texas rule" to this one - "if it's cretaceous and you don't know what it is, it's probably a rudist"

Curious why this is Texas rule,  other states don't have this problem? :)

'Cause people outside Texas made the rule.  :P

A corollary: if it not a rudist then it is a sponge.
