Lone Hunter
Picked from mix of QT, QAL, and Eagle Ford gravels. I love calcite but it can be deceiving, not sure if this was replacement of something or naturally formed structure, appears to be fossilized something. Curious about the red, mineral staining maybe? Last pic is view from above.
JamieLynn
If it's not simply geologic (which it may be) it's probably a rudist. 1 1 1 www.fossil-quest.com
Rockwood
A Mainer would have to call Texas rule rudist too. 1
Lone Hunter
Rudist was not on my radar, they are very strange and it seems no two look alike so it's beyond me how to recognize them.

Lone Hunter
Still not sure I would have recognized it in this form, which is pretty and delicate looking. That is the opposite of a rudist.
Lone Hunter
I think I was looking at it from wrong point of view, now I can see rudist.

Jared C
might have to apply the funny but often true "texas rule" to this one - "if it's cretaceous and you don't know what it is, it's probably a rudist" “Not only is the universe stranger than we think, it is stranger than we can think” -Werner Heisenberg
Lone Hunter
Curious why this is Texas rule, other states don't have this problem?

Lone Hunter
Y'all are real funny. Makes sense, people outside of Texas wouldn't be smart enough to figure it out.
