DPS Ammonite
It looks like slag. No nearby volcanos to provide such a recent-looking piece of volcanic rock. My goal is to leave no stone or fossil unturned. See my Arizona Paleontology Guide link The best single resource for Arizona paleontology anywhere. Stromalite or ironstone which sometimes forms in swirling concretions that i have always believed were from bacterial action in the slimy bogs they often form in. Misha
This almost looks like the back of the head or hair to some kind of doll or figurine, could it be that? About how dense is it? Also, it looks hollow from the side profile, is it? Edited October 19, 2021 by Misha 3

Maybe some sort of figurine that was melted or burned in a fire? 1 Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 __________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." MrR
Nice placement of an interesting shape by Misha! Whether it ends up being the case, or not, I can only say that my mind, normally pretty good at matching shapes, couldn't quite make the connection. Without a doubt, it has the same curves, contours, and colors.
JustinT.
It is semi hollow and semi solid. IMO it is heavy for its size. I can get get more photos when I get back home. Right now I am headed to haunted Ridge Rocks in Cadet, Missouri to do some rockhounding for Quartz, and other minerals. Thank You everyone for you thoughts on this. I will also post photos of some of the other fossils that I have found since Posting this.
