Craziest find to date!

I went to Penndixie to kill a couple hours and to my surprise laying on the ground was what is been confirmed by a few people as the left inferognathal of a placoderm. Most likely some sort of dunkleostus spc. Honestly my best find to date from that site as well as my first piece of fish from Penndixie.

My first reaction was like hmm not that impressive (didn’t know directly what it was). But after seeing the reconstruction I agree with all the others. Congratulations Christmas came early for you.

merry Christmas all.

I’ll post it there for sure once I find out more about it. Technically dunkleostus are only know to exist between 382 and 358 million years ago but Penndixie is thought to be ~385 so there’s a chance it could be something new

Exact ID is not essential to make an entry. ;)

That is spectacular! There are a whole family of Dinichthydae arthrodire placoderms that inhabited this sea that are closely related to Dunkelosteus. Every now and then I check the PennDixie website to see if any fish specimens show up! Congratulations!

Amazing! Great eye in spotting this. Not sure I would even had any idea if I had saw it laying there.
