strochim
I'm totally new at this, so I'm not experienced on how to uncover more of the fossil from the rock matrix I found it in. If I wanted to see if there was actually a nautiloid (orthoceras) in this rock (see photos), how would I go about digging more of it out to uncover it? What tools do I use? Any suggestions or recommendations? Thanks in advance.
JohnJ
Moved to the Fossil Preparation forum. You can save yourself the time on this piece. It is not a nautiloid. Most likely it is one of the crazy shaped and fascinating geologic structures formed in Texas Eocene rocks. 1 1 The human mind has the ability to believe anything is true. - JJ
Ludwigia
As already alluded to elsewhere, orthocone nautiloids had died out long before these sediments were laid down. 1 Greetings from the Lake of Constance. jpc
I agree, there does not seem to be any nautiloid in there, just a weird rock.
