FossilRPalace
Hello everyone, I've been working on extracting this piece of coral from the Rock Cut Quarry, located in Syracuse, New York. The part of the quarry wall this piece came out of is part of the Helderberg Group, sitting below the Onondaga Formation. I was looking forward to see if anyone had some input on identifying the species of coral. I believe its Favosites sphaericus. FossilRPalace
Thank you for the quick reply, it could be Favosites helderbergiae Hall. My Field Guide to Devonian Fossils of NY by Karl A. Wilson shows a cross-section of Favosites helderbergiae which appears to have little chambers/segments. I find it a bit hard to see a similar structure in this piece (could just be my inexperience). Edited February 20, 2022 by FossilRPalace
