Lilstock, Somerset. Possible bo e

Just spotted this on the beach, thinking it looks like ichthyosaur shoulder bone or something, don’t want to carry it if it’s just a lump of wood though. What are your thoughts?

Already seen a rib in one boulder, a vert in another and collected a piece of possible jaw and another bone.

 Thanks for looking.

Although I cannot provide an exact id to this fossil, it is definitely bone and also something I would collect. It is a very nice fossil!

This rock looks like it is from the Blue Anchor Formation and so this bone is thus Blue Lias in age. This includes the very top of the Rhaetic (Late Triassic) and the Lower Sinemurian (Lowermost Jurassic). Bones of ichthyosaurs and plesiosaurs are common finds, ichthyosaurs the most frequently found.

Lilstock is only 10 miles from where I was born, but I only went collecting there a couple of times.

Had the identity confirmed locally as an ichthyosaur coracoid, and a large one at that.
Very productive day, with lots of bone material to bring back
