This fossil I can't figure out.

I found this a few yrs ago and still can't figure out what kind of fossil this is.  I'm trying to figure out if this is plant or a different type.  It's 2inches wide.  Any ideas?  Thanks.

A few more shots from other angles with scale might help.

Also, what county it was found in, please.

In a way that's kind of the point. It looks like something that was almost too fragile to be preserved.

The piece is only one inch wide.  I was taking other pictures and mistaken the measurements.  This piece came from New Castle PA.  More pics.

Is it not an ironstone concretion...?

(I'm not an expert tho)

No just sandstone material.  With an unusual preservance.  It's a fossil but can't figure out what yet.  Conularid does make a little sense to me.  But want to see what majority says.

I don't think layered, iron rich, concretion should be ruled out. The new photos don't really support more than the original questioning.

I would agree calling it a sandstone with matrix/cement made of some iron minerals. Something between sandstone and concretion ;).

Sorry, this is not a fossil.

So far I was able to figure out it is a fossil from devonian period.  A brachiopod and what is showing in picture is the inside of it.  This is the outside shape.

Sorry but it's not the inside of a brachiopod and the picture of outside shape is unrecognizable.  It's a really neat concretion as already stated.

The (pseudo)concentric  "ornament"/ridges are probably fossilized reaction fronts.

edit: eliminating one "probably:DOH:"

Someone should have warned it that if it kept making that face it was going to freeze that way. :)

Lol yep rock froze with a strange face.  Darn rock won't stop looking at me with it's one eye.  Im not a big fan of shells just certain kinds.  When I walk the beach on vacations I only look for rocks, corals, and teeth.  Cephlapods are only shells I like unless a shell with fossilized creature sticking out.  Gave rock to wife because it looked neat.
