Petrified
I found this a few yrs ago and still can't figure out what kind of fossil this is. I'm trying to figure out if this is plant or a different type. It's 2inches wide. Any ideas? Thanks. Definition of a fossil= Love at first site. Fossildude19
A few more shots from other angles with scale might help. Also, what county it was found in, please. 5 hours ago, Rockwood said: Conularid ? Petrified
The piece is only one inch wide. I was taking other pictures and mistaken the measurements. This piece came from New Castle PA. Thames Adventurer
Is it not an ironstone concretion...? (I'm not an expert tho)

With an unusual preservance. It's a fossil but can't figure out what yet. Conularid does make a little sense to me. But want to see what majority says. Definition of a fossil= Love at first site. Rockwood
I don't think layered, iron rich, concretion should be ruled out. The new photos don't really support more than the original questioning.

Something between sandstone and concretion . Franz Bernhard
Petrified
Ok then mixture of iron sandstone but what kind of fossil is this is my issue. Definition of a fossil= Love at first site.

Petrified
So far I was able to figure out it is a fossil from devonian period. A brachiopod and what is showing in picture is the inside of it. This is the outside shape. Definition of a fossil= Love at first site.
Lone Hunter
Sorry but it's not the inside of a brachiopod and the picture of outside shape is unrecognizable. It's a really neat concretion as already stated.
doushantuo
The (pseudo)concentric "ornament"/ridges are probably fossilized reaction fronts. edit: eliminating one "probably"
Rockwood
Someone should have warned it that if it kept making that face it was going to freeze that way.

Lol yep rock froze with a strange face. Darn rock won't stop looking at me with it's one eye. Im not a big fan of shells just certain kinds. When I walk the beach on vacations I only look for rocks, corals, and teeth. Cephlapods are only shells I like unless a shell with fossilized creature sticking out. Gave rock to wife because it looked neat. 1 Definition of a fossil= Love at first site.
