Louise Crawford
I found this on Prestwick beach in Ayrshire, Scotland. Is it a fossil. It was almost black but now getting lighter as it’s drying out. Thanks!
val horn
It appears to be bone, and one that i think i should recognized but dont. @Harry Pristis may be able to help. I like the burn test to see if a bone is fossilized or not. When it is dry hold it to a flame and see if it burns and smells like burned hair A fossil does not burn
Meganeura
I can't say what it's from - but it's a joint bone! A metacarpal, I believe? Possibly from a cow - I've got a similar shaped one that's just the end bit. Some googling says southern scotland/Prestwick Beach is Silurian, Ordovician, and Carboniferous - which means you won't find any Pleistocene fossils. So most likely this is a modern cow metacarpal!
