Stagz4312
Recently was handed down a Megalodon tooth. Started doing a little research on megalodon teeth, and noticed people make replicas/fakes. I am no expert on shark teeth. So, I just wanted to reach out and see if anyone with expertise could determine if the tooth I have acquired is a replica or real. thank you!
Fossildude19
This looks real to me. Anyone faking a Megalodon tooth would take the time to make it look perfect. This has some obvious flaws, that would have been corrected had it been fabricated. 7 Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 __________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." Phos_01
Hello, Agree with above, this definitely looks like a real meg tooth to me, with a real root also , they get enhanced very often, or found without. It's definitely no Indonesian meg. Perhaps its a US find. Nice start to a fossil collection!
Meganeura
Agreed with @Fossildude19 - if someone was going to make a replica/fake, they’d make it perfect and much bigger! It’s a nice tooth despite the flaws though! Fossils? I dig it.

Gareth_
It's real and I agree with Meganeura's comment - it looks like a typical tooth from the Meg Ledge!
webmasterj
Like some of the posters above have mentioned, the wear/damage on the tooth looks typical and if someone was going to go to the lengths of faking a tooth they would make it much nicer and larger to fetch a higher price. While there are a LOT of fakes and undisclosed restoration meg teeth out there that one appears to be genuine.
