Fossil Tooth?

Hi Everyone,

my 6 year old son found this washed up on Lepe Beach, Hampshire and would love to know if it’s a fossil (and any more details if possible)

it’s approx 5cm long, I’ve taken pictures of both sides.  Thanks to anyone who is able to offer an opinion!

It's shaped like a shark tooth, but it isn't. If you Google "shark tooth" you'll see the difference. The only similarity is the shape. There is no enamel and no evidence of root structure. If it was a very worn tooth the interior would be of a homogenous nature instead of having various sized inclusions or intrusions. Actually, the inclusions are what make the best argument for this not being a tooth. We would need sharper closer photos to tell, but those inclusions may actually be fossils of marine creatures.

I agree with Mark's diagnosis. I'm getting amygdaloidal basalt vibes for the material, but I'm not sure if your area has rocks of igneous geology. The features in the upper left of the top "enhanced" image are the most fossily to me, but I think they are more likely to be chips or inclusions than a fossil impression.

Thanks All, we’ll keep looking.  We’re in a good spot down here, my daughter has found a few but my son thought this was his first!
