Recommended Posts

I am going out 2-3 times a week... so Thursday, Saturday, Tuesday, Thursday, finding mostly stuff I recognize and a few Items I do not --

Primarily I am interested in Photos 1,2 . Initially I thought Tapir, but no -- Fossil buddy thinks predator.

Then a vert (snake??) and something that looks like knee or ankle bone (horse??).. for extra credit -- Thanks for any/all responses.. SS

I initially though tapir for the tooth and looked at one I have and it is quite different, but I only have the one, so maybe.

#2 is likely a scapula - glenoid fossa portion (where the ball of the shoulder/humerus articulates). Not super big - dog size-ish.

#3 looks like a talus/astragalus (ankle as you mention). Not sure of what. The talus looks big though to me.

Thanks for the guidance. I think the 3rd bone is #5,6,or7 in this picture of a horse knee. The bone is in great shape , so might be more recent.. http://etc.usf.edu/c...7606_carpus.htm

Here are a couple of more photos of what is likely not a "vert", thanks for the tip on scapula. I am thinking there is only 1 "break" making it not likely to be a vert -- snake or otherwise.

Harry, Nice ID on the pre-molar. 1st impressions should have counted.

On the bison bone, it is really pristine, no wear or breaks and shiny black. Even though it sounds and feels like fossil and was pulled out of sand just below the bank, makes me wonder if it is 1880s introduced bison rather than Pleistocene bison.

In any case , I am pleased to have these new additions...Thanks to all
