garyc
Well, we recently solved a sloth mystery and I think I have another sloth bone. Is this possibly a knuckle or metacarpal? I saw an image on line from Florida that looked very similar, but much smaller.
calhounensis
Looks like a cubonavicular from a large artiodactyl. My guess, Bison/Bos.

garyc
Yes, that's it. I thought it looked like the bone on the left of the link below, which is labeled as sloth. Is this one mislabeled? Or just different? http://www.wncrocks.com/floridajekyll6-10-60.jpg Edited November 19, 2014 by garyc
calhounensis
That's a mislabeled Odocoileus cubonavicular. Take a look at Harry's photo, it'll show both of the bones in question.

Thanks for clearing that up. I feel less stupid now thinking that my bone may be from a sloth. And I thought you could believe everything on the internet!! tmaier
And I thought you could believe everything on the internet!! People need to be brave enough to use question marks when there is even a slight question of classification. Otherwise it results in a cascade of errors.
