MSirmon
I picked up Two pieces of what I believe is coral in Mason TX. What's a good resource to use to determine the type?
DPS Ammonite
Do you know the age and the geological unit that it came from? To help here is an attached map of the Mason area. Please send send us a close-up of the top of the colony in the first photo and a close-up of the "coralites" in the third photo with a mm scale. Also, are you able to send a photo with more pixels that we can enlarge when we click on them? It might be a Paleozoic coral, chaetitid or bryozoan colony. abyssunder
For me looks like a colonial tabulate "chain" coral, similar to Halysites. https://www.google.com/search?q=halysites&biw=1360&bih=612&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&sqi=2&ved=0ahUKEwiqvtX1kffKAhVGSZoKHRx_Ay0Q_AUIBigB " We are not separate and independent entities, but like links in a chain, and we could not by any means be what we are without those who went before us and showed us the way. TqB
Chaetetid is my first impression but it needs a couple of closeups. Tarquin
