Help ID. Sponge and clam?

I am uncertain as to what it is, but it is not a shell mold or cast. It goes into the rock and is not just a surface feature.

It does have the appearance of selenite (satin spar), which can be layered in the way this is. In the picture the "layer" on the left appears to be a fresh break and shows the fibrous appearance of selenite.

It could also be a fossil but I do not have any idea as to what it could be a fossil of.

I go with a geologic on this one.
