Chert Nodules

Is there any value in splitting chert nodules? I have a double nodule from near Fredericksburg TX appx 16" long that I am curious to look into. One end has a 1/2" hole with a chert stem sticking out that is pretty interesting. If it is worth the effort, what method would be best used?

I've a nice little trilobite fossil from splitting a chert nodule/cobble.

I'll try to add a pic when I get home.

I would use the freeze/thaw method with your nodule, however.

How to's can be found by searching the Forum.

Here are some pics of what I am wanting to pop open. I've read how to do it on the forum but am nervous for some reason. I'm not really sure of what to make of the intentions on each end of the rock. Has anyone seen something similar?

Whichever method you use I wish you the best of luck.  Let us know how it goes.

I will keep you updated. Currently soaking for 4-5 days or until I can convince the wife the freezer is the proper place for the rock to be.
