ynot
Looks a lot like petrified wood from the chinle formation of Arizona. But I am not familiar with this type of preservation from Mazon creek. 1 Darwin said: " Man sprang from monkeys." Will Rogers said: " Some of them didn't spring far enough." ynot
Taking a second look and was wondering if the first side shown is polished? It could be a plant from another rock hound as a joke/gift. 1 Darwin said: " Man sprang from monkeys." Will Rogers said: " Some of them didn't spring far enough." I meant that someone left it there as a "gift" for whomever found it. Darwin said: " Man sprang from monkeys." Will Rogers said: " Some of them didn't spring far enough." Nimravis
I agree with the others- that is not the type of material that is found at the creek or the Pits. As @ynot stated, it looks to be from Arizona. Now as an FYI, in the past, people have dropped off piles of open and unopened concretions as well as other fossils at the pit- that most likely belonged to a collector that lived in the area and had passed away. Those families most likely had no interest in the fossils and knew that other collectors in the area would enjoy them- I am thinking that is how your fossil arrived there.
Rob Russell
Salting the site! I've found Waldron Shale fossils at mazon. And Ramo found a blastoid out in the middle of nowhere. Anythings possible. Ramo
Rob, I was just going through some spring cleaning yesterday and I came across that little blastoid. I found I still have a few nodules to freeze from back when you and I hunted up there. I still owe you a hunt if you ever make it down this way! RCFossils
Could this be a piece of agate? It is definitely not a Mazon fossil.
