School groups are allowed in, but it has to be Teacher(s) and Students, ... and you have to obtain permission from Reading Anthracite. They have private security patrolling the area, and people have been arrested for criminal trespassing, and vandalism. Unfortunately, some greedy person was guiding pay to dig trips there, and using machinery to extract fossils. One bad apple spoils the whole bushel. You will have to try somewhere else for fossil ferns.
