PHFossilGuy
Found this specimen when hunting just outside Danville, PA in a roadcut near the Susquehanna river. This is from the same visit as my previous post. The location is Trimmers Rock formation. My best guess is Leiorhynchus but I'm pretty stumped on this one.
Mark Kmiecik
Looks like a brachiopod to me, but wait for others to confirm -- I'm not a brachiopod expert. Mark. Fossil hunting is easy -- they don't run away when you shoot at them!
Fossildude19
It's an internal cast, so, it may be difficult to say anything more than brachiopod. Possibly an Orthid brachiopod. @Tidgy's Dad 2 3 Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 __________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." Tidgy's Dad
Yes, I think it's an internal cast, but I think of a productid pedicle valve. 1 1 Life's Good! Tortoise Friend.
PHFossilGuy
3 minutes ago, Tidgy's Dad said: Yes, I think it's an internal cast, but I think of a productid pedicle valve. That very well could be. We find productella brachs at that site. This specimen is about 3.5 cm at its widest point. That's quite a bit larger than the productella we've found there. Tidgy's Dad
Hmmm. I don't know the formation terribly well . Praewaagenoconcha is bigger. Life's Good! Tortoise Friend.
PHFossilGuy
True, plus Praewaagenoconcha is a great name to both try to pronounce and spell! 🤣 2
