CrazyDiamond
I found this at the Ladonia fossil Park, Texas, in the Sulphur River, it looks like it might be a fish in this rock towards the top but I'm not sure. I believe all findings in this water or from the Cretaceous Period. Thank you for looking and any help identifying. Laura
RJB
I believe you are trying a little to hard to see a fossil. There are some folks here on the forum that can tell you exactly what kind of rock that is, but its not a fossil. Sorry RB
CrazyDiamond
OK thanks, I'm starting to think I'm not cut out for this fossil thing LOL. I have just a couple more posts I'm gonna put on hopefully sooner or later something is going to be a fossil. I appreciate your help, thanks again. Fossildude19
Welcome to the Forum. Looks to me like a piece of chert or flint. Sorry, but I am not seeing any fossil here. I see an image resembling a fish, in the most vague way. The human mind is designed to see patterns and images. Like seeing shapes in the clouds, this phenomena is called pareidolia. Many of us get these confused for fossils. Mother nature has a sense of humor. CrazyDiamond
Yes I see what you're saying now. Well I'll keep trying. I have another one I'm about to post and I'm almost certain I'm not seeing things but at this rate who knows LOL.
Fossildude19
The best way to learn how to recognize fossils is to look at pictures of the fossils that can be found in your area, and to to join a local rock/mineral/fossil club. Once you know what to look for, it is easier to find them. Keep trying - better to ask and be wrong, than to throw away a great fossil without asking about it. 1 Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 __________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." If you keep posting and look at others' posts, you will get the hang of identifying fossils. I've only been on the forum for a couple of years, and have seen a lot of people who start out with rocks and end up with amazing fossil finds. 1 Lori www.areallycrappystory.com/fossils www.facebook.com/fossilpoo

GeschWhat
Ha! I see it. That is called pareidolia. It is like seeing images in the clouds, toast, or ink blots. Sometimes things like this are even more fun than fossils. In addition to fossils, I love collecting concretions that look like things. JohnBrewer
Hey Laura, don't give up. We all found rocks to start with and even experienced hunters still do. 1 John Map of UK fossil sites
