Crab #1 Cenomanocarcinus vanstraeleni with eye?

Recommended Posts

A few weeks ago I went snail collecting in a drainage canal that is in an outcrop of Eagle Ford - Britton formation , haven't been for awhile and there was a lot of erosion that changed things up.

This area must have been very shallow Ive only found a few small ammonites and baculites the majority of finds are crab concretions.

This time however no concretions, but various crab parts with unusual preservation of certain things

First up want to confirm ID of Cenomanocarcinus vanstraeleni and is that an eyeball?  The carapace is a little wonky and missing some but it's definitely round.  Also showing area where it appears shell was ripped away and that's what's left.

Not sure I see a crab, but will say that is a beautiful ammonite! Reminds me of the micromorphs out of the Pawpaw.

Guess you haven't looked at many crabs.

Pictures aren't the best, but, I do see a crab.

Photos in daylight, from directly above, with the crab in a familiar orientation might show more.

do not see a crab, too. Looks like a limonite-nodule, partly broken

The ammonite is nice

I am having a hard time seeing a crab, but I think it is there.  The pictures are really out of focus... if folks can't see a crab, best to tell them what you see, rather than insult them.  : )

edit... I just saw a post by two of other Texans in which they found some really nice crabs.  One of them was indeed they guy that you claimed had not seen many crabs.

Concur with the 2 above me.  Really need better pictures for quality ID.
