Hi All, while walking through the Lake District on Hill Blencathra.  I found this wondered if anyone knows what it is.

id guess it to be plant material, my shoddy cross referencing of a geologic map indicates the area is Carboniferous? (Question mark shows my uncertainty).  If it is Carboniferous (feel incouraged to correct me with the use of a geologic map, you can use your exact location) than plant material would be common.
