seansims
Hi Chase..thanks for the comment... in your e-mail comment message you suggest it could be a phalanx from a wooly mammoth, and this comment suggests a phalanx of a wild horse. Which one is the most likely? Thanks Sean

seansims
Hi Harry, thanks for this...really useful! My bone measures 60 width x 45 depth mm.. and not quite matched it up yet. My bone seems much shorter in depth to all of the examples I've seen so far and with a slightly different appearance. Not sure how size varies in each breed/species. Great fun detective work so far! seansims
Could I be wrong in assuming it is def from a horse??
abyssunder
The middle phalanx is an Equus phalanx II. excerpt from E. Schmid. 1972. Atlas of Animal Bones. For Prehistorians, Archaeologists and Quaternary Geologists. Elsevier, New York. The ones at left and right (picture 2) are ironstone concretion, comparable to sample below : " We are not separate and independent entities, but like links in a chain, and we could not by any means be what we are without those who went before us and showed us the way. seansims
Hi abbysunder, spot on! That's the closest I've seen to my bone, thanks for posting! After your advice, I re-searched on Google & found this photograph which is almost identical in shape & size, & was found in Belgium, Western Europe, which would link my bone nicely. Thanks once again, Sean
