north basin Lake Winnipeg

So I came across this "weird stone. possibly a fossil. The pattern goes all the way through the stone. Found near the north basin of Lake Winnipeg, Manitoba. Does anyone have an idea what this could be / could have been? While I have found numerous snail type fossils, this one was a first... I'm not even sure if this is a fossil at all.

It's a halysitid tabulate coral colony - Halysites or similar genus (there are a few). AKA "chain coral".
