Chippewa
Hi, I just thought I would ask others if this looks like a plant stalk. I thought it looked kind of like a palmetto trunk (but much smaller). Won't hurt my feelings if you think its a rock, but the repetitive pattern just made me want to ask - maybe others have seen similar specimens? It is very dense and polished from ocean/sand tumbling. (I didn't include a picture of the opposite side because it was crushed/broken and had no valuable detail) Thanks,
Rockwood
It is similar to some of the fossils known to be pith casts. I've never seen one just like it, or from that area though.
Fossildude19
Views of the ends, and even the crushed the back side may be helpful. Also, where in Florida was this found? Location is not always obvious from the location on your profile. People find things on vacation, or day trips or visiting places other than their home town or county. What is the size of it? Is it round, or flat? My first reaction is that it is not plant, as the preservation is unlike any plant I have ever seen. It may be a piece of bone, or tooth that has been worn and eroded into a suggestive plant-like shape. The edges of the piece looks chipped to me.
