LoreleiBC
Can you help me identify this fossil? I think it might be a cameroseras or endoseras. It is in a rock on the foundation wall of my 80 year old house in Nashville. It looked like a regular rock when I moved in, but has weathered since and revealed this fossil. I have no idea where the rock came from. It measures 16 inches long. Edited February 23, 2018 by LoreleiBC Punctuation error
Kane
Neat! It very much looks like an orthoconic nautiloid, but wait for others to chime in. 1 ...How to Philosophize with a Hammer
Tidgy's Dad
Nice to have in the wall of your house! Hello, and a very warm welcome to TFF from Morocco. It's certainly an orthoconic nautiloid, but which one I don't know. This may be useful: https://books.google.co.ma/books?id=7SNbTPx2vn8C&pg=SL16-PA19&lpg=SL16-PA19&dq=tennessee+orthocerid&source=bl&ots=tnrKvGcbvt&sig=8Qx2H4i08jkYt9QDRnDL5MguwLA&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiaupuxrbzZAhVDchQKHWcUC1cQ6AEIJzAA#v=onepage&q=tennessee orthocerid&f=false 1 Life's Good! ynot
The small piece next to the quarter is most likely a shell fragment. The larger cone shaped piece is an orthocone, as others have said. Darwin said: " Man sprang from monkeys." Will Rogers said: " Some of them didn't spring far enough." My Fossil collection - My Mineral collection My favorite thread on TFF. Miocene_Mason
That’s cool! “...whilst this planet has gone cycling on according to the fixed law of gravity, from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been and are being evolved.” ~ Charles Darwin Happy hunting, Mason
