Fish fossil help!

Recommended Posts

I found a REAL BARGAIN online... but not identified.  I am thinking Diplomystus sp. ???

What are the diagnostic features of this Genus?  The odd mouth I have seen on Diplomystus  - but also on Knightea!

At a glance, I believe Knightia based on: apparent size, the odds (most abundant fish), and no indication of the ribbon-like anal fin, diagnostic of Diplo. Of course that is the very area of the fossil with the poorest preservation, so there is that factor.

Thank you all!  I was leaning toward Diplomystus, but I ALSO thought Knightea was a real possibility!
