Wowbnjijdat
Hi Guys, I found this Mosasaur jaw on the internet, but is it real or an composite? The jaw is from the Kem Kem region.
LordTrilobite
It's not from the Kem Kem beds to start with. There are no Mosasaurs there. This is from the phosphate beds of Khouribga. The Kem Kem beds has Cenomanian deposits. Mosasaurs in Morocco are from the Maastrichtian. The Kem Kem beds also generally has a distinctive red tint. The Maastrichtian material is typically white or beige like this one is. This looks quite real. No red flags here. The bone looks good, though it looks like it might have been broken and repaired. It's a right dentary bone from the lower jaw. I'd say it's probably Prognathodon sp. The teeth also look good, nothing suspicious here. But composites are so common from Morocco that no jaw should be trusted just like that. So closeup photos would help to make sure that the teeth aren't composited. Overall looks good, but better photos wouldn't hurt. And it's not from Kem Kem. 6 Olof Moleman AKA Lord Trilobite
Troodon
Agree looks okay, some of the teeth seem have been broken and reattached to jaw

RJB
Very bad prep job, but from this distance it looks real. RB
Tidgy's Dad
+1 for real and from the phosphate deposits not Kem Kem. Bits of it seem to have been badly cemented back together. 1 Life's Good! Tortoise Friend.
