Found this in my bucket along with my other teeth and bits and pieces.  Appears to be skin (fish?)  Can anyone tell me more?  Flat with shiny black enamel diamond pattern.

We are most likely going to need a closer look at this before anyone can be certain.

Where it was found would help as well.

Yeah need more pics but I’m guessing that it’s scales.

I would occasionally find fish bone with scale imprints at Lee Creek, most likely Yorktown Formation. I'm guessing they are from the side of the head of the fish. Here are a couple I found. One has the scale pattern on the back too.

These impressions are beautiful!  I find a lot of steinkerns, mostly broken, of shells, but nothing that detailed.

Here are a few more phone photos.  It is a small piece and slightly curved.  Don't think it is an impression.  Waiting for the back to load but just nodescript matrixIMG-20180429-WA0001.jpg.2bf9b842dd3da07ce902c124fc5bb791.jpgIMG-20180429-WA0003.thumb.jpg.7f2984c2e6244ac9ed8d0379f9e52c2d.jpgIMG-20180429-WA0000.jpg.b85d932d69a5d2137a7982c5e44950b1.jpg

I think we may be close to a ganoid  fish scale ID. Body as opposed to impression.

So it's a piece of gar skin?  Thanks for the ID

Hold on ! There are some fish guys you need to convince.

I'm not even sure gars are the only fish with ganoid scales.
