I found this “Fossil” in the Netherlands near the German border about 10 years ago and have always wondered what it might be. To me it looks like part of a horn or antler. Wonder if anyone can help me out.

Thanks

I don't see the bone structure of an antler.

The texture does seem right for some form of travertine or as you suggest stalagmite .

Maybe a rudist?

Yes, it might be a rudist, considering its shape, the longitudinal striations of the outer side, the hollow inside (body cavity) and the "cellular network" of the celluloprismatic structure  characteristic to rudists (bivalves) , which I think I see in the natural transverse section.

I wonder if the person who named these things realized how descriptive it is when it comes to identification. :)
