Cpiech
I found this “Fossil” in the Netherlands near the German border about 10 years ago and have always wondered what it might be. To me it looks like part of a horn or antler. Wonder if anyone can help me out. Thanks craig
Rockwood
I don't see the bone structure of an antler. The texture does seem right for some form of travertine or as you suggest stalagmite .
Fossildude19
Maybe a rudist? @abyssunder 2 Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 __________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." abyssunder
Yes, it might be a rudist, considering its shape, the longitudinal striations of the outer side, the hollow inside (body cavity) and the "cellular network" of the celluloprismatic structure characteristic to rudists (bivalves) , which I think I see in the natural transverse section. 2 " We are not separate and independent entities, but like links in a chain, and we could not by any means be what we are without those who went before us and showed us the way. Rockwood
I wonder if the person who named these things realized how descriptive it is when it comes to identification.
