Staten Island, NYC Beach Find

Found this on a beach in Staten Island, NYC. The beach fronts on the Raritan Bay and Atlantic Ocean.

I am a complete and utter noob when it comes to fossils. I'm pretty sure it IS a fossil at least, I showed pictures to my archaeologist friend (he specializes in Viking Age artifacts and sites) and he said it's definitely a fossil...so there's that :D. Anyone have any idea what it is (or was)? I thought maybe a shell? I Googled pictures of fossilized shells and didn't see any that look quite like it.

I hope that the pictures are sufficient, I tried to capture how the fossilization goes up on the sides of the rock and it's not just a flat imprint. Please excuse the glittery nail polish.

Thank you for your time!

I have found these on the island in the same areas to, while I do not know the exact species it is a devonian age coral or brachiopod of sorts.

I’m tempted to say this resembles the brachiopod Leptaena.

Pictured here is one of mine for comparison.
