Crazyhen
Is this genuine? Any repairs? It is so perfect that I’m not sure if it’s genuine.
Tidgy's Dad
It doesn't look right to me. I know different torts have different numbers of scutes, and the bony under scute skeleton is different but there don't seem enough here and the marginals are weird too. daves64
Maybe the 1st one is a prehistoric soccer ball.. T-Rex had to have something to do when not eating everything in sight. Pemphix
Both not real imho. You may have a look to papers of Dr. M. MAISCH et al., you may find a lot of examples how they're looking...
Crazyhen
What about this one? It’s said that no repair has been done. Is it a genuine fossil tortoise?
LordTrilobite
First and last examples look completely real. 2 Olof Moleman AKA Lord Trilobite

The plastron seems real enough but I'm not sure about the carapace. The sort of brown lines showing scute position seem to be painted on over a rather odd looking osteoderm/ bone structure. 3 Life's Good! Tortoise Friend. steelhead9
On the carapace of the first and third specimens there seem to be 2 sets of suture lines between the scutes. I do believe the fossils are real, but I think the thicker, darker sutures on the carapace of both were engraved and painted, and I can't imagine why. 1 Still Life Fossils
Ptychodus04
Could the thinner lines be compression cracks with the thicker the actual bone boundaries? There's not much compression evident in the pictures and there's no side view to look for this but it's possible. The thinner lines look too random to my eye to be the actual suture lines. 1 Regards, Kris Global Paleo Services, LLC https://globalpaleoservices.com http://instagram.com/globalpaleoservices http://instagram.com/kris.howe
Harry Pristis
These appear to be small tortoises. I suspect that the mystery lines are simply stains where the scutes started to pull away from the carapace bones. I have no similar tortoise to gauge a match to the scute pattern, but it's my best guess based on a water turtle's scute/bone overlap. 3 http://pristis.wix.com/the-demijohn-page What seest thou else In the dark backward and abysm of time? ---Shakespeare, The Tempest
