Only one I have ever seen for sale... they were asking $2500 but went down to $2000.  It was still available when I left the show on Monday.

Blimey! It doesn’t even look like it’s an inch

Wow! Looks like several great museums put together.

I see some with interesting stories. The first looks like it died while giving birth to three babies. I guess that one is coming out in the right spot for a birth canal?

Has anyone seen a fossil for sale before now with the restriction that it is only sold to an institution?

That Mother Ichthyosaur was one of my favorite fossils and did sell... I don't know to who or the price but I think it will be on display at the show for a few years per the agreement made between the buyer and seller.  The steg plate in the picture above does belong to a full animal that will only be sold as a whole to a museum... he's been there for the past two years waiting for a buyer.

More interesting than your average six digit modern painting in a fancy museum for a fraction of the price.

Utterly unbelievable! :faint:

I would just die.

Thank goodness you didn't photograph any of the brachiopods!

Thank you very much for taking the time and trouble to post all these for us. :)

Great stuff, I have to get there sometime. My favorites are the opalized stuff from Australia and the Oligocene bird egg from South Dakota.

If you want to check out the Eurypterids Alan is retiring and will have a lot of his best stuff there this year. Worth a look.

I second that.

I wouldn't be surprised if they weren't bothering much with 'small fry' like brachs any more - judging by these pics they are aiming for the big, impressive stuff, and there seems to be no shortage of it. Or maybe that's just the photographer! ;)

What bothers me about this kind of fossil room is that sea urchins with spikes are reconstructed. Do we know exactly if this species has any kind of spikes ? Are the larger ones on or under or on the sides ?

It seems to me that there are far too many thorns on the periphery and not one on the top !

The result is very pleasant visually, but on the scientific side I am not sure of the veracity, I hope in any case that the thorns belong to the species...

Opalised fossils are the best: a wonderful mix between paleontology and mineralogy!

Q. Where do dinosaurs study?

A. At Khaan Academy!...

That's all I have!  There are many many more fossils at the show that I did not take pictures of.  I'm mostly interested in dinosaur material so that's what my pictures are of.  If anyone else has pictures from the show please feel free to post them here!

I love the opal too!  I had no idea that it cost so much!  I hear there was a complete opalized Ichthyosaur paddle at the show but I was unable to locate it.  I hope someone else grabbed a picture of it!

There were actually two Oligocene bird eggs that I saw this year, I only took a picture of the one.  They looked very similar to me.

There were many nice Eurypterids around, sadly I did not photograph any of them.

Definitely just the photographer!  This show has everything from $1 to $10M!

The bird egg was in perfect condition without any resto!  The only one of that quality I have ever seen.  They were asking $30k for it and it was gone before I left, not sure what the actual sold price was.

I didn't specifically ask if this was reconstructed but assume it was.  There were loose spikes not prepped in the matrix so hopefully they do all belong to the same species.

Thanks so much for sharing.

I guess they must have sold all the brachiopods before you got there.;)
