So I found these fossils around Tukwila Washington.
I'm not looking for an ID but I'd just like to share with you some of the gastropods and bivalves I found along the way :)
And for all you Washington fossil hunters, don't listen to people who say you need to be in Utah to find fossils, they are everywhere here ;)
(Information: These come from the Eocene time period 40 million years ago. Some of these fossils are Turritella Uvasana (Identified by Professional) some gastropods, some pecten looking shells (still not sure) and bivalves of unknown species.)

Until seeing your posts, I don't remember ever seeing any fossils from Washington so Thanks for showing them to us. Nice finds that you have.

thanks :) most people don't know we have fantastic Cretaceous to Miocene fossils here. On the eastern side there are even trilobites and other Cambrian fossils.

Do you have any trilos that you can show us? Would like to see them if available.

Maybe @piranha can help with that. He is our trilo expert.:)

Im not looking for an ID.

Everyone would complain that the quality of the pic is too low and the lighting is bad and no size comparison. I posted my finds here because Im tired of the anal retentive nature of identification (though it is justified)

Well then I guess it is a good thing that I didnt mention that a better pic would help.:hearty-laugh:Which I didnt because I realized you never asked for an ID  and I was the one asking you to show it.:) But it is in our nature to be curious and seek as much knowledge as we can.:zen:

Very interesting fossils. :)

As Darktooth Dave says, it's not often we get to see fossils from this location.

Thanks for sharing.

Is that trilo from Metalline Falls? I have a small specimen from there, crudely prepped apparently, but it is ID'd as an Elrathia sp. - Middle Cambrian (same age and genus as those common Utah bugs! Much less common in WA though, I gather) Not sure if yours is the same, though - I'll defer to Piranha on that.

It is not complaining when we ask for better pictures.

We see tons of pictures that are too small, blurry, poorly lit, without any scale, and the people who post them expect to get IDs down to a species level from less than optimal pictures. and poor, little or no location information.

And yet, we attempt it, however, you can only get so far with pictures. In hand observation is best for those who are unable to get good photographs from their phones.

Identifying fossils from pictures can be an exercise in futility at times, even with the best of pictures.  Just the nature of the beast. :)

Fair enough, if you don't want any suggestions as to ID that's your business.  Posting in "fossil hunting trips" still doesn't justify low picture quality.  Also it is in the nature of people who have a genuine fascination with fossils to spontaneously offer suggestions about any unidentified specimens.

Justified complaining. Filing a complaint in say, a court room, doesnt mean its illogical or unjustified. I just want to show my finds to people who appriciate fossils and dont need to know every sequence of DNA to do so :D

it does pay to be curious as to various areas. I grew up in Wisconsin west of Green Bay and had been told there were not fossils in that area...a few near Green Bay and much further west but none in my area...hah. I got permission to look in a newly dug quarry being used for gravel for road building around Green Bay, and found beatiful orthocones...in fact the quarry workers had come across a 5-6 foot orthocone....i saw it and told them to contact a museum, but they were interested and before my very eyes broke the boulder, smashed it up and put it through the grinder. Unfortunately I was there asking permission and hadn't brought my camera. I could have cried. When I went the next time, I did take my camera along, and found this beautiful 22 " orthocone, in a 600 pound boulder....it too was crushed for gravel. So sad. At least I have a photo of it.
