San Francisco Bay Area Finds

Recommended Posts

Goody

Hello,

SF Bay Area native here, totally new to this forum and to collecting anything other than rocks found on the beach.

On one excursion just after a stormy high tide on a private access beach south of Pomponio, I came across these two cetacean(?) fossils(?) washed ashore, each of which weigh ~5+ lbs.

Any further info anybody could offer would be great!

If You are looking for IDs on these pieces You should take pictures from all sides and with a scale, then post them in the "fossil ID" section.

These give me a geological vibe, but please wait other opinions.

DPS Ammonite

See if the white rock is limestone by seeing if it fizzes in acid. Both Franciscan limestone and marble occur nearby and contain no macrofossils. In fact,  UC Santa Cruz has at least two caves in marble.
