porshaman
Can anyone help me to identify this skull?? It came from China 30 years ago and appears to be a young cave bear but I am not 100% positive. I thought it may be a bear-dog or Hyaenodon type of canid but the snout is too short. A percrocuta was also a thought, but they seem extremely rare. Any information would be gladly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Harry Pristis
Looks like a cat dentition to me. Evident are the P2-P4 -- is there a small M1 or alveolus for an M1 behind the P4 (carnassial)? The lower carnassial (m1) might be even more diagnostic. 1 http://pristis.wix.com/the-demijohn-page What seest thou else In the dark backward and abysm of time? ---Shakespeare, The Tempest

caldigger
Teeth don't look bruin to me. I'm thinking HP is on the right track.

Bobby Rico
I don’t really know but it does kind of looks like a cat or a cave hyena?
Iguanodonfossil
It looks like a fossil hyena of some description, I'd have to have a better look at the lower carnassial teeth. I'm thinking Adcrocuta.
Kiros
I know this is a very old post, but that one is a hyena skull, based on the robustness I would say adcrocuta

Those upper premolars look more robust than any cat - more like bone-cracking teeth.
