wilbur
Found this recently on a beach near Chippokes, Virginia in an area known for fossils. It's heavy, actually felt like concrete when I first picked it up but you see what looks like the bone pores on the inside. It looks like it was roundish at one time but has split lengthwise at some point?
Andúril Flame of the West
Nice find! The apparent bone texture on the concave side of the bone suggests to me that this is indeed bone. Since the area around Chippokes mainly exposes the Pliocene-aged marine Yorktown Formation, I would say that this is most likely a nice chunk of cetacean bone. Due to the size it may be possible for someone such as @Boesse to determine what bone it may be and what species of whale it could have come from.

cck
I’ll defer to those who may know better, but it looks to me like part of a baleen whale jaw 1
