I hadn't really considered that. I'll have to research on if Mule Deer are known as fossils in Kansas.

Is it possible that we have a different species of Deer ? Glad to see that you have deer teeth with and with out stylids.. This is new to me. I will have to check my deer teeth.

I wonder the same thing!
Me and my hunting partners have found several deer mandibles, and quite a few teeth- but the stylid/no stylid and shape of the stylids are inconsistent. Not sure why, but maybe gender, age, and genetics has something to do with it?

Not sure about the color .. usually Florida blue color is cobalt. I have a couple of deer m3s. You seem to have stylids missing on mine.

That means there's a chance that the larger one is an Acrocoelites, especially A. trisulculosus from the Mulgrave Shale Member (Jet Rock) above the Grey Shales. It would ideally show three apical furrows while Passaloteuthis has only two. The third (ventral) one can be faint though. The Jet Rock is a lot harder and darker too.

Thanks for the lead, I will read up on this! It was found between Runswick and Kettleness, past the tenuicostatum area, if that makes a difference on the possible strata.
I don't remember exactly where the smaller one was from, but all of our collecting happened between Port Mulgrave and Kettleness or Saltwick Bay.
