These are fantastic specimens! My son and I are just getting into the fossil hunting and found some nice trilobites and brachiopods in the Mahantango Formation, too, in West Virginia. If you don't mind my asking, what sources do you use for IDs? I've found Fossil Forum very helpful, but I was wondering if there's standard scientific reference out there or a basic guide about what specific details and features to check on trilobites for identification. We have some Eldredgeops Rana, which are easy to identify, but I'm not sure how to go about naming others. Many thanks!

Hi Kerry!

What I use is the 'Field Guide to the Devonian Fossils of New York' by Karl A. Wilson.  The Hamilton group of New York is analogous to the Mahantango of PA and WV.

This blog also does quite a nice job as a supplement to the field guide:

I don't think it's active anymore but still a good repository of some nice IDs and images
