Megaselachus13 Posted December 11, 2008 One of the largest and best preserved I have seen for this species. The beast that was wearing this one had to be very old. Is there a sexual dimorphism at dentitions level in the transition between I. hastalis-C. carcharias (including I. escheri)?. Link to comment
Northern Sharks Posted December 12, 2008 Thanks for the comments. This was either the 2nd or 3rd tooth I ever purchased and I didn't realize how uncommon it was in terms of size. I bought it when Chilean teeth were still common and allowed to be exported, but I don't think I've seen many as large as this one before or since. Now that the exporting has ceased, the nicest teeth are locked in collections and not being offered for sale. As for any difference between male and female, I haven't seen enough of the transitionals to make a guess. Link to comment
