Hendrix Scraper

Harry Pristis

This is a uniface flake tool which was part of the Paleo and the Archaic toolkit. The hinge fractures on the edge indicate that this tool was hard-used. The flaking on the narrow beak suggests that this tool was used as a perforator as well as a scraper.

This is a not-uncommon tool in Florida. It is named after Alvin Hendrix, a local collector.

Hi, 'Mudar' -- welcome to the Forum!

In Florida, the Paleo Period extends from about 12,000 BP to about 9,000 BP. The Early Archaic extends from about 9,000 BP to about 7,500 BP. Pretty recent compared with the history of humans in Syria, isn't it!

Of course, these are "cultural periods," and different authors may organize them differently. There is a vast literature that does just that. With your good English, you'll be able to access lots of information on the Internet. Good hunting!
