Fish Jaw

Harry Pristis

This is a drum dental bone ("os dentale"), the tip of the fish mandible. It is from the Santa Fe River. Drum is a saltwater group of fish, but many saltwater species enter freshwater rivers. I've encountered living snook, striped bass, a shark, stingray . . . even a sea robin in freshwater rivers here in Florida.
