Sauropsis sp.?

Upper Jurassic

Tithonian (Malm zeta)

Solnhofen

Germany

I am not sure anymore this being a Sauropsis; the proportions these two fish

seem to be different. Sauropsis belongs to the Pachycormidea, all of them being very fast swimmers. This specimen is only around 30cm (12") in length, but Sauropsis could easily reach 1.5m and sure was one of the top predators in the Solnhofen lagoon. One of the most characteristic features of this genus is the enormous caudal fin with its upper lobe being larger than the lower lobe and the lower jaw being slightly larger than the upper jaw.
