Ecphora quadricostata from North Carolina
The Ecphora quadricostata is a large Pliocene meat eating snail or Mollusc that went extinct about 5 million years ago during the late Pliocene era and belongs to the family known as Muricids wich are a predatory drilling snail that fed on other molluscs. The Quadricostata is a variety of Ecphora that ranges from Virginia to Florida and is so named because of the 4 costa (ribs) Quadricostata. (personal find)
